darwin raises €1.5M to tackle the biodiversity crisis
Why darwin?
The biodiversity crisis is as urgent as the climate crisis, yet it remains its often-overlooked counterpart. Despite growing awareness, most companies struggle to tackle this issue effectively. The challenges are numerous: managing heterogeneous and vast amounts of data, addressing limited traceability, and mapping complex spatial impacts.
At darwin, we’re leveraging cutting-edge technology to overcome these hurdles and embed biodiversity considerations into the heart of business strategies.
Our goal is simple: we want to empower companies to rethink their business models and become key players in the ecological transition.
At the end of the day, our mission is clear: to harness the power of technology for the benefit of nature.
What we’re building
To do so, we’re developing a platform designed for consultants and ESG SaaS providers to assess businesses' biodiversity impacts and create concrete, actionable plans to reduce them.
Our platform enables users to craft end-to-end biodiversity strategies, covering data collection and processing, risk and impact assessment, action plan development, and reporting.
We leverage advanced technologies and AI to solve the main challenges mentioned above:
Our platform addresses the multidimensional complexity of biodiversity analysis, allowing our users to be way more productive when conduction a biodiversity footprint assessment.
Using AI models and in-house algorithms, we bridge missing data points, particularly in upstream supply chains where information is often scarce.
By integrating with third-party software via APIs, our platform delivers a detailed view of localized impacts and dependencies.
Why now?
The urgency has never been greater. The biodiversity crisis is intensifying, threatening ecosystems and economies: after all, over 50% of global GDP is directly dependent on nature.
Companies are now recognizing not only the moral imperative but also the tangible risks associated with biodiversity loss. From a reputational standpoint, consumers and investors are demanding greater transparency and accountability. Regulatory measures such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) now require companies to report on their biodiversity impacts and dependencies. Additionally, the degradation of natural ecosystems is leading to increasing supply chain disruptions and resource shortages.
The time for action is now, and businesses must adapt to survive and thrive in this new reality.
Where we’re headed
We’re thrilled to announce that we have successfully raised a €1.5M pre-seed round, led by French VC Astérion and prominent European Business Angels in the climate and ESG space.
These funds will be instrumental in strengthening our Tech and Product teams to enhance our platform’s capabilities, and scale our solution to leading consultancies, enabling them to serve a wider range of companies.
We’re just getting started but our vision is ambitious: to become the go-to platform for biodiversity assessment and action, helping businesses transition to sustainable models while safeguarding nature.
